01 — Awareness & Education

Awareness & Education

Workshops, campaigns, and educational content that build understanding of anemia, sickle cell disease, hemophilia, thalassemia, blood cancers, and related health challenges. We meet people in the places they already gather, such as schools, clinics, and community spaces, because understanding shouldn't depend on already knowing where to look.

In Practice

School and community workshops on sickle cell disease and other blood disorders

Public awareness campaigns built around key recognition dates

Plain-language guides and educational materials members can share

02 — Support Services

Support Services

Psychosocial support through peer groups, hospital visitations, a caregiver program, and mentorship, especially for international students and people without family support nearby. No one should have to figure out a diagnosis, a hospital stay, or a caregiving role on their own, and this network exists to close that gap.

In Practice

Peer support pairings and regular group check-ins

A hospital visitation program for members who are admitted

Caregiver mentorship pairing new caregivers with experienced ones

03 — Healthcare Engagement

Healthcare Engagement

Equipping healthcare professionals with culturally and patient-experience-informed knowledge and best practices for managing blood-related disorders, particularly sickle cell disease. When providers understand the lived experience behind a diagnosis, care improves for everyone who walks through that door after.

In Practice

Cultural-competency training sessions for healthcare providers

Patient-experience panels connecting clinicians with lived experience

Shared resources and best practices with partner hospitals and clinics

04 — Wellness & Pain Management

Wellness & Pain Management

Holistic wellness programs, including mental health workshops and physical fitness sessions tailored to people living with chronic conditions. Living well with a chronic blood disorder is about more than managing symptoms. It's about reclaiming a sense of everyday normalcy.

In Practice

Mental health workshops built around the realities of chronic illness

Physical wellness sessions adapted for people managing a chronic condition

Practical, plain-language pain management education

05 — Advocacy

Advocacy

Promoting access to healthcare, disability incentives, and inclusive health policies that improve quality of life for patients. We work to make sure the people most affected by these policies have a real seat at the table when they're written.

In Practice

Direct engagement with health authorities and policymakers

Disability incentive and accessibility advocacy

Public campaigns pushing for more equitable access to care

06 — Community Mobilization

Community Mobilization

Building a robust network of volunteers, partners, sponsors, and community leaders to drive and support the mission and amplify its reach. A network is only as strong as the people who show up for it, and that's the network we're building here.

In Practice

Volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training

Building relationships with partners and sponsors

Engaging community and faith leaders as ongoing collaborators
