Membership

One network, one way to belong.

Membership is free and open, and it isn't a fixed box. A caregiver might also volunteer as a peer supporter, and a researcher might also become an advocate. At sign-up, you can select more than one option and get every role you check. Start wherever fits you right now; nothing here locks you out of the others.

Not Sure Where to Start?

We've got you.

Skim the categories below and start with whichever fits you right now, or just reach out and we'll help you figure it out.

Living With It

You are not doing this alone.

Whatever brought you here, a new diagnosis, years of living with it, or a hard week, there's a community here that understands what you're carrying. As a member, you get plain-language education, hospital visits and peer groups, and advocacy for better care. The full breakdown of what we run lives on Programs.

From credible sources

Our educational materials are community-sourced, developed in partnership with people who live with these conditions, their families, and the healthcare professionals who support them. We prioritize plain language and cultural relevance, making sure the information is accessible, trustworthy, and rooted in real experience.

From our community

Members living with pain crises have told us that staying warm, resting, and slow breathing have helped them get through a hard moment. What works varies person to person. These are shared experiences, not instructions.

Caregiver

Showing up for someone else starts with support for you.

Caregiving for someone with a blood health disorder is constant, often invisible work. BHASnet exists for you too, not just the person you're caring for. Members get a caregiver mentorship pairing, mental health workshops, and guidance on navigating the healthcare system.

Listen first

Ask what the person actually needs in the moment rather than assuming. Sometimes that's practical help, sometimes it's just company.

Learn the basics together

Understanding the condition helps you advocate in appointments, but let the person you're caring for lead on what they want you to know.

Look after yourself too

Caregiver burnout is real. Our mentorship program and mental health workshops exist for you, not just the person you're supporting.

Peer Supporter

Be the person who shows up.

Peer supporters are members, whether patients, caregivers, or anyone with lived experience, who make themselves available to walk alongside someone else going through it. It's one-on-one, human, and often exactly what pamphlets can't offer.

Someone to talk to

Be available for a member who needs to vent, ask questions, or just not feel alone with what they're going through.

Hospital visits & company

Offer company during a hospital stay, help during appointments, or stand alongside someone who isn't being heard.

Especially for immigrants

A lot of our members don't have family nearby. Peer supporters are often the closest thing to that.

Everything shared through peer support is kept confidential.

Volunteer

Help make the programming happen.

Where peer support is one-on-one, volunteering is the hands-on work that keeps the wider network running. Think workshops, campaigns, and the events that everything else depends on.

Workshops & campaigns

Help run awareness campaigns, education sessions, and community workshops.

Event support

On-the-ground help at events, from setup and check-in to coordination and whatever the day needs.

Whatever your skills are

If you've got a skill in marketing, admin, design, or logistics, there's probably a use for it here.

Organizations & Partners

Partnership is membership, just in a different capacity.

Health authorities, clinics, academic institutions, government agencies, faith-based and cultural networks, and companies with a genuine interest in blood health all engage with BHASnet as members too, and together we work out a tailored arrangement rather than a fixed package.

Training & Education

Deliver or co-develop workshops for healthcare staff and community members on culturally responsive blood disorder care.

Research Collaboration

Partner on data-informed studies and treatment approaches, with direct access to community-grounded insight.

Sponsorship & Advocacy

Support programming, campaigns, and inclusive health policy work as a community or corporate partner.

If you're a caregiver, a clinician, a researcher, or an organization engaging with BHASnet, you're a member. Organizations don't have an individual sign-up account; reach out through the contact page and we'll figure out the right arrangement together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about membership.

Is membership really free?

Yes. BHASnet membership is completely free. There are no hidden fees and no trial periods. Always has been, always will be.

Can I change my membership role later?

Absolutely. Many members evolve into new roles over time. A patient becomes a peer supporter, a caregiver becomes a volunteer. Just reach out and we'll update your account.

What if I want to be more than one role?

You can select multiple roles when you sign up. The account system is built to support the fact that people are complex, so you don't have to choose just one.

How do I get involved as an organization?

Organizations engage with us through a tailored arrangement. Contact us and we'll figure out the right fit together.

How long does it take to get started?

Signing up takes about a minute. Once you create your account, you'll have immediate access to the member dashboard, events, resources, and peer support.
