BHASNet Partners with University of Saskatchewan on Sickle Cell Research Study

New research aims to document the patient experience of sickle cell disease in Saskatchewan.

BHASNet is proud to announce a research partnership with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine to study the lived experience of sickle cell disease patients in Saskatchewan.

The study, titled “Understanding the Patient Experience: Sickle Cell Disease in Saskatchewan,” aims to document the challenges and barriers faced by patients with sickle cell disease in accessing care. The research will be conducted through interviews with patients and families, with a focus on understanding the social, economic, and cultural factors that affect health outcomes.

“This research is critical to our advocacy work,” said Placid Orji, Secretary of BHASNet. “The data we collect will help us make the case for policy changes and improvements to the healthcare system. It will also help us tailor our programs to better meet the needs of the community.”

The study is expected to run for 12 months, with preliminary findings to be shared at BHASNet’s annual general meeting in 2026.

Patients and families interested in participating in the study can contact BHASNet for more information.
