BHASNet Joins National Coalition for Disability Incentive Reform

Advocating for better disability supports for people with chronic conditions.

BHASNet has joined a national coalition of organizations advocating for reform of disability incentives and supports in Canada. The coalition brings together organizations representing people with disabilities, chronic conditions, and their families.

The coalition’s priorities include:

  • Expanded Access: Ensuring that disability incentives are accessible to people with chronic conditions, not just those with visible disabilities.
  • Reduced Barriers: Simplifying the application process for disability benefits and reducing the burden on applicants.
  • Increased Support: Advocating for higher benefit amounts that reflect the true cost of living with a disability.
  • Inclusive Design: Ensuring that disability programs are designed with input from people with lived experience.

“People living with blood disorders often face significant financial barriers,” said Placid Orji, Secretary of BHASNet. “They may struggle to work due to their condition, but the supports available to them are often inadequate. This coalition is working to change that.”

BHASNet will be actively participating in coalition activities, including policy submissions, advocacy meetings, and public awareness campaigns.
