BHASNet Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Margaret, Our Longest-Serving Volunteer

Celebrating the dedicated volunteers who make BHASNet possible.

Volunteers are the backbone of BHASNet. This month, we’re spotlighting Margaret, a grandmother from Vancouver who has been with BHASNet since the beginning.

Margaret joined BHASNet after her grandson was diagnosed with sickle cell disease. She wanted to learn more about the condition and find ways to support her family. What she found was a community that welcomed her with open arms.

“When my grandson was diagnosed, I felt lost,” Margaret shared. “I didn’t know what to expect or how to help. BHASNet gave me the information I needed and connected me with other families who understood what we were going through.”

Since joining, Margaret has contributed in countless ways. She helps with outreach to the immigrant community, assists with event organization, and has been a source of support for other grandparents navigating a new diagnosis.

“Margaret embodies the spirit of BHASNet,” said Immanuela Ezugba. “She shows up, she listens, and she helps others feel less alone. We’re incredibly grateful for her contributions.”

BHASNet is always looking for new volunteers. If you’re interested in getting involved, visit our Volunteer page.
